Florida Woman Arrested For Allegedly Giving A Toddler Fentanyl Candy

A Florida woman has been arrested for allegedly giving a toddler fentanyl candy, officials say.

According to a news release from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, a 2-year-old’s grandparents noticed the child became lethargic Monday evening. The grandparents believe it happened after the child allegedly got candy from Jessica Martinez.

Deputies spoke with Martinez who allegedly told them her “hands were dirty in fentanyl,” according to PCSO.

The child lost consciousness and could not stay balanced when deputies arrived at the house. A deputy gave the child some department-issued Narcan to help with treating opioid overdoses and it helped to reverse some of the symptoms.

The 2-year-old was taken to the hospital for observation and has since been released.

Martinez was arrested at her home.

Martinez allegedly told the deputy that “fentanyl is her drug of choice,” and she took it hours before she had contact with the child.

Martinez has been charged with child neglect and no bond amount was set.
