Florida Woman Arrested After Allegedly Attacking A Nurse In The Emergency Room At Hospital

A Florida woman has been arrested after allegedly attacking a nurse in the Emergency Room at UF Health-Leesburg Hospital.

The woman, 47-year-old Barbara Jean Sizemore of Crystal River, had been placed by Citrus County sheriff’s deputies at LifeStream Behavioral Center under the Baker Act as she appeared to be suffering from mental health issues. While at LifeStream it was determined that she needed a medical examination.

Sizemore was taken to the hospital on Monday for medical clearance. While waiting in the emergency room for the examination, she began acting out by throwing items onto the floor and against the wall according to the Leesburg officer’s arrest report. When an emergency staff member came into the room to calm Sizemore down, she had her glasses knocked off of her face, had her hair pulled and hand squeezed. Eventually staffers were able to use restraint straps to stop the attacks.

Sizemore refused to talk to a Leesburg police officer except to say she was “only defending herself,” the report said.

Sizemore was arrested on a charge of battery to a health care provider and was transported to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $5,000.
