A Florida woman was arrested on a drunk driving charge after crashing into her neighbor’s vehicle.
The neighbor, who lives on the 5100 block of Aurora Drive in Leesburg, was playing cards with some friends when he heard a loud bang coming from his front yard. The card players rushed out to the front yard where the neighbor discovered that the driver’s side front bumper of his vehicle had been damaged.
The only other person in the vicinity of the damaged car was his neighbor, 76-year-old Sharon McCann. The neighbor could smell alcohol on McCann’s breath as she repeatedly said she did not hit his car. The neighbor called the Leesburg Police Department to report the incident.
When an officer arrived on the scene, he noted that McCann smelled of alcohol and was speaking incoherently. She insisted that she did not hit her neighbor’s car. The officer noted in his report that McCann’s car had damage on the back driver’s side rear bumper. The officer concluded that the McCann vehicle had been backed across the street and into the neighbor’s car. The New York native said she had three glasses of wine. When she attempted to take part in field sobriety exercises she showed signs of impairment. She was swaying and, at one point, fell down.
McAnn was placed under arrest and transported to the Leesburg Police Department. She provided two breath samples that yielded .187 and .183 blood alcohol content. She was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
