A 21-year-old Florida woman was arrested on drug charges after she was found passed out in front of a Walgreens store during the middle of the day.
Amber Daughn Angle, of Haven Court, was charged with possession of a controlled substance (Xanax) without a prescription, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) without a prescription, possession of cocaine, and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana.
A Leesburg Police officer responded to the drug store, located at 11101 U.S. Hwy. 441, shortly after 11 a.m. following a report of an unresponsive white female in front of the business. Angle was alert and speaking with Lake County EMS and fire personnel by the time the officer arrived, according to the police report.
The store manager told the officer he and another employee discovered Angle sitting outside of the store unresponsive. He said she was slumped over and holding a black backpack on the ground. The officer was later shown a photo taken by the other employee that showed Angle holding the backpack, the report said.
The store manager said when rescue personnel arrived at the scene, they lifted Angle off the ground and she immediately woke up and appeared to be alert. He said when Angle was being lifted, a clear bag containing an unknown white powder fell from her upper torso and landed between her legs, according to the report.
The witness said Angle cupped the bag with the powder in her right hand and concealed it from the rescue workers while she was being evaluated. Rescue personnel later confirmed Angle was concealing a small bag containing an unknown substance in her hand, the report said.
The officer observed that once Angle was medically cleared, she was still holding something and keeping her hand closed. The officer saw she was holding an identification card, a lottery ticket, and a cell phone in the same closed hands. When the officer asked Angle for her ID card, she opened her hand and he immediately saw the clear plastic baggie with the white substance, according to the report.
Angle was detained and started yelling that someone placed it in her closed hand while she was passed out. The substance later tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 2.2 grams, the report said.
After Angle was placed under arrest, officers saw a second clear plastic bag containing a white substance sticking out of her open black backpack. The substance tested positive for cocaine and weighed 0.5 grams. Also found in the backpack were five pills later identified as Xanax, according to the report.
Officers continued to search Angle’s property and found one gram of marijuana, a black scale, a newly purchased and unused glass pipe, two unused syringes and several open and unused plastic bags. Angle spontaneously said the items were not hers, the report said.
Angle was taken to the Leesburg Police department for booking. After being read her Miranda warning, Angle said she had been dropped off in front of the store and was told to hold onto the black backpack by two unknown black men. Angle later said the Xanax and marijuana were hers and she uses the drugs to help her cope with the loss of a family member, according to the report.
Angle is being held on $3,500 bond.
