A Florida woman is in the Bay County jail for allegedly stealing more than $1,000 from an elderly woman.
Tiffany Prater, 37, was taken into custody, according to a press release from the Panama City Police Department. She is charged with five counts of uttering a forged check, grand theft and violation of probation.
The alleged victim told investigators she noticed discrepancies in her bank account in November 2020. PCPD investigators obtained subpoenas for financial documents and account information, the release said.
During their investigation, detectives determined Prater had obtained the victim’s checkbook, the press release stated. During the course of several months, Prater deposited more than $1,000 into her own account by writing at least five of the victim’s checks to herself and depositing them, police said. An arrest warrant was issued on Jan. 19.
