Florida Woman Arrested After Finding 23 Pounds Of Marijuana And Almost $10,000 In Trunk

A 19-year-old Florida woman was arrested after Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported finding her with 23 pounds of marijuana and almost $10,000, according to a recently-released affidavit.

Samantha Nicole Exford, of Clearwater, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana over 20 grams, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, manufacturing or delivering marijuana, and two counts possession of or use of drug equipment, after the incident on Florida’s Turnpike.

According to the affidavit and the FHP, Exford was a passenger in a 2008 Saab that a trooper stopped while working about 3 miles north of Okeechobee Road on the turnpike.

The trooper reported stopping the vehicle after noticing its dark tinted windows.

The trooper asked whether drugs, weapons or alcohol were in the vehicle, and the driver said he had two weapons in a case in the back seat, but said he had no drugs.

The driver said they were going to a hotel in Miami for a few days, and to shoot guns. The driver and Exford said they were coming from Tampa.

A trooper reported smelling marijuana, and finding a backpack with a container of marijuana.

In the trunk, investigators said there was a duffel bag with 23 large bags of marijuana.

According to Lt. Yanko Reyes, FHP spokesperson, each of the 23 bags weighed 1 pound for a total of 23 pounds of marijuana. Troopers reported a bag with nearly $10,000 also turned up.

Exford said the marijuana was hers, and the money was hers from selling the pot.

The driver wasn’t arrested, Reyes stated.

Exford was released from the St. Lucie County Jail on $12,000 bond, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.
