A Florida woman, who recently published children’s book, was recently arrested after three children were found with injuries as well as signs of malnutrition, according to her Seminole County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
Jennifer Wolfthal, 41, of Casselberry was arrested New Year’s Day on charges of aggravated child abuse and neglect after investigators say a child in her care was hospitalized in critical condition.
According to the arrest affidavit, an 8-year-old girl was brought to the hospital with a variety of injuries.
Seminole County Sheriff’s deputies interviewed a relative who told them Wolfthal had claimed the child’s injuries came from a series of accidents and falls.
However, the arrest affidavit says investigators determined the girls’ bruises and severe cuts were not from injuries. They found the girl to be critically ill and took her to the pediatric Intensive Care Unit at AdventHealth.
Detectives then went to Wolfthal’s Casselberry home to check on two other children.
The arrest affidavit said it was determined those children showed signs of malnourishment, bruises and lack of care.
The sheriff’s office says the children have been placed in protective custody.
Wolfthal has since been released on $76,000 bail.
