A Florida woman was arrested on a DUI charge last week after she allegedly drove over a trash can and dragged it down the street.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded around 12:30 a.m. to a report of a reckless vehicle on SW 143rd Lane Road. A resident reported that a grey Ford pickup truck had left a residence up the road and drove over a trash can on his lawn. He said the driver was possibly impaired, according to the sheriff’s office report.
The man said after the truck drove over the trash can, it continued down the road about 50 more feet before coming to a stop with the trash can still under its front bumper. He said the driver then backed up from the trash can and drove back to a residence about 500 feet east of his home. Another eyewitness confirmed the report, the report said.
A deputy found the grey Ford pickup parked in the driveway of a residence on SW 143rd Lane Road. The driver – Kristina M. Travis, 43, of 10387 SW 73rd Ave. – was still in the driver’s seat of the vehicle and was in possession of the keys. The deputy smelled alcohol on her breath and observed her speech was slurred and her eyes were watery, according to the report.
Travis admitted she had been drinking at her friend’s house and said she had been operating the vehicle on the roadway. After failing a series of field sobriety exercises, she refused to provide a breath sample and was placed under arrest, the report said.
Travis was charged with DUI with property damage and taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released on $2,000 bond. No court information was available.
