A Florida woman was arrested for DUI after deputies caught her driving her Jeep on its rim and swerving into traffic.
A Monroe County deputies said they saw Krystal Berglund, 32, driving her black northbound Jeep on the Seven Mile Bridge around 5:20 p.m. after receiving a be-on-the-lookout alert for a reckless car.
The deputy said the driver’s side rear tire was gone and the Jeep was being driven on the rim, which was disintegrating and throwing debris onto the road.
The deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the Oregon native kept driving and was seen swerving into oncoming traffic. Multiple cars had to take evasive action to avoid crashing, according to Monroe County deputies.
Berglund eventually stopped the car near the “Welcome To Marathon” sign after getting off the bridge.
The deputy said the woman smelled of alcohol.
Berglund told the deputy she had just gotten into an argument with her boyfriend and that he hit her and got out of the Jeep. She also said she wasn’t aware that she was missing a tire.
The woman’s boyfriend walked up to the scene and told the deputy they got into an argument, that she hit him in the face, and left their previous location after he warned her that the Jeep had a flat tire.
The boyfriend did have a cut on his lip consistent with being hit, Monroe County deputies said. Berglund later changed her story and said she hit her boyfriend.
She was taken to jail and was arrested for DUI, reckless driving, and battery.
