Florida Woman Jailed After Allegedly Striking Man And Chasing Him With A Knife Because He Took Her Cigarettes And Lent Out Their Vehicle Without Her Permission

A Florida woman is behind bars after she allegedly struck a man and chased him with a knife because he took her cigarettes and lent their jointly owned vehicle without her permission to a person known as “Pale Face.”

Jennifer Leigh Shamp, 27, of SW 102nd Place, was charged with simple domestic battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill after the incident, which happened Tuesday afternoon.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to the residence where Shamp and the victim live and observed Shamp walking with haste away from the home towards SW 103rd Place. Shamp said she and the victim got into an argument that started when the victim tried to solicit oral sex from her and escalated when he took her cigarettes from her, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Shamp said the victim left the residence with her cigarettes and she chased him on foot to get them back. She said she then noticed their vehicle sitting in the driveway after being missing or several days, in the history of a person known as “Pale Face.” Shamp said she and the victim started arguing over him not leaving the vehicle, which escalated to her pulling a knife from her bag and threatening to stab all the tires to prevent anyone from using it again, the report said.

Shamp was taken into custody and the deputy went to the incident location and spoke with the victim, who said he and Shamp have been repairing a residence on SW 103rd Place. He said after Shamp declined his gesture, he returned to the incident location and tried to leave in his and her vehicle, according to the report.

The victim said Shamp started screaming she was going to slash the tires and slapped him on the neck. He said she slapped the phone out of his hand while he was trying to record the incident. The victim said Shamp stabbed the hood of the vehicle with the knife, causing him to retreat. He said Shamp then chased him around the residence several times with the knife in her hand, the report said.

The victim said he feared for his life as the victim was “wailing the knife in the air.” The deputy observed a noticeable red mark on the victim’s neck, consistent with someone who was recently struck, according to the report.

After being read her Miranda warning, Shamp said she never touched the victim but was upset because her vehicle was loaned to “Pale Face” for several days. She said she was not trying to hurt the victim when she was chasing him with the knife, and she only wanted her cigarettes back and for him not to leave in the vehicle, the report said.

Shamp was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she’s being held on $6,000 bond.
