Florida Woman Arrested After She Allegedly Fired Shots Inside A Motel Room, At Police And Hotel Employee During Standoff

A 34-year-old Florida woman was arrested after she allegedly barricaded herself and fired shots inside a West Palm Beach motel room.

Police identified the woman as Barbara Antell Walker. She was faces three counts of attempted murder. Investigators say two police officers and a motel employee were her intended victims.

Walker was taken into custody after a SWAT team entered the room at the Red Roof Inn, on Metrocentre Boulevard off 45th Street and just west of Interstate 95, police said.

The situation began at about 10:30 a.m. and lasted for more than an hour, with Walker reportedly firing either four or five shots while officers were at the motel.

There were no injuries, but several people near the scene told officers they feared for their safety when the shooting began.

Officers breached the room using the boom from an armored carrier and used tear gas to get Walker to come out. However, she did not leave, and she threw at least one canister of the gas back at officers, police said.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., a police robot was sent inside to survey the room. Investigators say Walker fired at least one shot at the robot.

A SWAT unit entered the room, found her in the bathroom and took her into custody without further incident. Walker was taken to a hospital for evaluation, then returned to West Palm Beach Police Department’s custody.
