A Florida woman is accused of assaulting an elderly motel employee after he instructed her to leave a room after checkout.
April Stokes, 30, was arrested and charged with battery on a person age 65 or older.
She was booked into the Escambia County Jail with a $5,000 bond, according to her arrest report. County records show Stokes ultimately received a lower bond of $2,500.
On Sept. 24, an elderly employee at an undisclosed Escambia County motel was cleaning a room when he saw a purse was left inside.
He placed the purse outside the room and walked back inside. He then noticed that a woman, later identified as Stokes, was still in the bathroom.
When the employee told Stokes she needed to leave, Stokes became agitated and picked up her purse and used it to strike the employee, according to the arrest report.
The employee grabbed the purse in self-defense, and Stokes punched him in the face with her fist, the report stated.
The assault ended when a witness intervened. The witness later told an Escambia County Sheriff’s Office investigator that she was in her own room when she heard the fight and intervened to stop it.
ECSO deputies could not immediately locate Stokes, and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
