Florida Woman Charged With First Degree Murder In Connection To Infant’s Death

A Florida woman faces charges of first-degree murder after autopsy results of a two-month-old child left in her care.

The criminal investigation began when physicians from St. Joseph’s Hospital notified deputies of the baby’s injuries, which left the child paralyzed, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

When hospital officials examined the baby and detectives investigated the matter, they discovered the baby had “numerous injuries” consistent with shaken baby syndrome. The child remained hospitalized until dying.

A child abuse investigation was launched into Brienna Craig that led to her arrest. The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office now has ruled the child’s cause of death as a homicide.

Following the homicide ruling, Craig is now also charged with first-degree murder while engaged in aggravated child abuse, HCSO said.

It’s unclear if Craig is the mother of the child.
