The Florida mother of a 6-year-old girl who police said was found fatally stabbed in an Arlington Heights home was booked into the Duval County jail on a charge of second-degree murder.
The (Jacksonville) Florida Times-Union reports that Purkanah Yisrael Mayo, 36, had been hospitalized after first stabbing her daughter then stabbing herself with the same kitchen knife and was in life-threatening condition.
The Florida Department of Children and Families’ child fatality report for Duval County states that the mother was visiting the child home at the time of incident and they had been involved with the girl’s well-being in the last five years in addition to the mother’s parental rights being previously terminated.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said four other people were at the home when the attack took place, among them another child.
A GoFundMe account was created to raise money to help the family with funeral costs.
